Speed and focus are key features of the EOS R5, offering impressive continuous shooting at speeds of up to 20 frames per second with Dual Pixel CMOS AF II technology that can track even the fastest-moving subjects. With 1,053 Automatic AF zones, capturing images of people has never been easier thanks to Eye, Face, and Head Detection AF, while Animal Detection AF allows for tracking the entire body, face, or eyes of cats, dogs, or birds. The 5-axis in-body image stabilization can effectively reduce camera shake by approximately 8 stops when using non-stabilized or optically image stabilized lenses. Connectivity options like 5GHz and 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are also available for seamless sharing and control.

The EOS R5 boasts a new 45 Megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor and is equipped with the DIGIC X Image Processor, offering an ISO range of 100-51200 (expandable to 102400x1). It can achieve high-speed continuous shooting of up to 12 fps with the Mechanical Shutter and up to 20 fps with the electronic (silent) shutter. Dual Pixel CMOS AF covers approximately 100% of the frame with 1,053 AF areas and features advanced subject tracking for both people and animals using deep learning technology. The camera also comes with dual memory card slots and is compatible with the RF5.2mm F2.8 L Dual Fisheye lens.

Additionally, the EOS R5 includes an in-body Image Stabilizer and High Resolution Shot mode. With firmware 1.8.1 or later, the IBIS High Resolution shot mode allows users to create 400-megapixel files directly in-camera, eliminating the need for external software. This feature is beneficial for specific situations requiring high-resolution files with fine detail, such as art reproduction and building signage. The camera's working temperature range is 32–104°F / 0–+40°C, and the working humidity range is 85% or less.
